Hi Steve, I was there all through the week and late on Saturday when the dealers were packing up to leave. I didn't find anyone wanting to steeply discount their stuff. I guess they paid a lot to acquire it and can't let it go for less, even if they have to lug it back home. After all, there is always the next show.
My best deals were from guys who either were going out of business and selling off at their cost, or were independent guys selling off their personal collections to fund a child in college. There is only so far anyone is willing to deal down to. If they were going to give it away, why go all the way to York? I know the dealers by sight now who I just breeze past, 'cuz even though they have nice things, I know I won't find any "steals" there. York isn't what it used to be. Nothing is. I think you did about as well as anybody could. -Tim ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve & Cathy Pendleton To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, October 22, 2002 7:17 PM Subject: York Hi, Tim, Just saw your post on S trains list. I found these deals: In the Red Hall at 11:15 Fri., I bought a like new 312 SIT without the wrapper for $100.00. There were other similar deals on engines I already have. This same guy had a mint 336 in the wrap, as part of a freight set incl. the Gulf 3-dome tank car and the State of Maine 982, et al, for $1800.00, incl. set box, individual boxes, and all papers. It was still there at 3:30 Fri. afternoon. I bought my first 982 in the White Hall on Fri. for $65.00. Only thing wrong with it is a 3/16" chip out of one of the ladders. The lettering and colors are perfect. Both the above were from independent collectors. At the Blue Caboose (forget the guy's name) display at the Holidome on Wed., he had many common cars, llke new in the box, for bargain prices. All was sold by the time I got there around 1:00, but there was a MoPac stock car left in the box for $20.00, that he would have probably sold for $17.50 or even $15.00 if I had wanted it. I think these are pretty good prices. In general, though, most Flyer was on sale for top price. Would have been interesting to be there around 3:00 on Sat. and to have seen how sharply prices were falling as everyone prepared to pack up for home. Please write. What did you find? What was your experience?
