Hi folks: The product of volts and amperes (both in RMS values, as measured on a typical meter) will yield RMS watts, which is a perfectly usable calculation and is DIRECTLY comparable to a DC wattage rating. That's the whole purpose of RMS, or root mean square. RMS is that value that equates with the same value of DC.
Do not worry about phase shift.
