It seems to me I remember an old time hardware store where they
sold left and right hand Flyer curved track and roadbed right next to
their display of left and right hand pipe wrenches, claw hammers, rip
saws, and gnip-gnop tables (that's ping-pong spelled backward). The
owner used to complain that he did not have much market for the left
handed versions of the Flyer track or tools. He did say, however, that
he moved a lot of gnip-gnop games, though.
My wife's stepfather bought me a book about railroads of the
anthracite region. A couple of photographs could inspire me to build
similar scenes on my layout, should I ever get my basement
waterproofed. One shows a Lehigh Valley FA2 at the point of a freight
consist passing under a bridge that carries the Lehigh and New England
across the Lehigh River, Jersey Central trackage, and the LV line close
to my home. The second shows a Pennsylvania Steam locomotive hauling a
short train, five or six hopper cars and a caboose, down the Frackville
grade on PRR trackage. I am not sure of the grade of this track, but it
is a hard rise from St. Clair to Frackville. In fact, trains were
limited to 3500 tons on the downgrade because of the steepness of the
grade. These are two great pictures of anthracite railroading during
the early post-war days..
The scenes would look great on a Flyer layout.
