I would be skeptical of any device that would prevent link couplers from separating.
The links must be free to move laterally across the bar, as well as vertically (up &
down). IMHO, the BEST way to prevent links for uncoupling is to meticulously make
sure the track lies flat and there are no appreciable dips - such as the transition to
or from grade. I often remove the links and ream out the holes with a round file,
then reattach to the bar. The links must be free to move up & down. What sometimes
happens is, a link will move up on a dip and stay there if it isn't free to fall back
down. This dis-engages the cars. Again, IMHO, there is absolutely no reason why link
couplers can't work as smoothly as the best knuckle couplers, if maintained well and
adjusted correctly. So far as I know, they worked well when they left the factory 50
years ago. Why not just restore them back to spec.

Subject: [S-Trains] "Device" for Keepin link couplers hooked together
The best little device I've ever found was the small rubber bands that are sold at
drug stores, used for girls' pigtails and such. Just hook one on one coupler pin,
swing it over the top of the couplers and drop it over the other pin. Works like a
champ (except no automatic uncoupling)! JimA

Subject: link coupler device
Didn't someone once make a little device that would keep AF cars with link
couplers coupled together? Is it still available?
Thanks.
