I just had to share,....yesterday I bought a new AF -NP "Share in Freedom"
red-white-blue, boxcar. Now that in it's self,...isn't actually exciting, however I
bought it from my local train store! I popped in to buy my friend a
gift certificate and was about to leave and the owner said, "Here is something you
might be interested in!" She then set a box on the counter. I swear, through the storm
clouds we've had lately, a bright ray of light, beamed out of the heavens and directly
onto this familiar blue and yellow box!
Could it be? A piece of American Flyer rolling stock? In THIS store?? I picked it
up and admired the boxcar,...the owner's husband said,..."Whatta ya think?". I looked
at the $54.95 price tag and said, "Not bad for thirty bucks!",....he said I could have
it for $39.99,.....before I could say anything, he then said, "Ok,... $38.50!" ..of
course I said I'd take it! They had ordered it for a fella that thought it was a
larger scale car, and were about to send it back. They have ordered SHS for me,( after
I hinted they need some quality "S" stuff, they will order but not stock as of yet)..
they also handle MTH, and I forgot, they do have some Lionel. (The are mainly a HO and
N store). I mentioned the AF Christmas cars, and she said that of course we
can order them. I'm not really sure how long they have handled Lionel,...I never
thought to order new Flyer
through them! I have ordered a 2003 Christmas car,...EARLY! Still need a 2002!
I always joke when I pop into the store,..."Was that the American Flyer truck I
saw just leaving?" I did buy my Bachmann On30 set through
them,...but I never imagined I would walk out of their store with an AF piece!!
Speaking of AF Christmas cars,...I need to get 'em out and run 'em! I do have one
gripe about the 2001 Christmas car,...you need a magnifying
glass to see the "2001",...and it doesn't say "American Flyer"!!!!
