Most of my work for the last 12 years has been for industrial firms and I agree a business must make decisions based upon its ability to succeed in its market. Otherwise it won't be around next month. Firms also have to service a broad enough market that they can weather economic downturns in one market sector and survive. The firm I was with the ten years previous to my last twelve didn't learn that and they are gone. You and I should probably find another chat group to exchange our views about moving more and more of our industrial production overseas, and what that might mean for our grandchildren. Mr. Thompson: Thought it interesting you looked into buying the brand name because your brand name is now well known in the S-Gauge community. I try and help with that at shows our modular group attends by letting people get a good look at, i.e. pick it up and hold it, my SW1200 purchased from your firm. Great little engine at a good price. Most folks agree. But,�. You and most other manufacturers are making a more refined and less rugged product that AF made "back in the day". By less rugged I mean, "kid ready" and "child proof". Example, a while back my friend and I were in my garage working on my modules and running trains at the same time. My 343AC derailed and dropped off the 40-inch high modules onto the concrete floor. All that was damaged, luckily, was the ladder at the rear of the tender. I don't think my SW would fair as well, and I don't think you intended it to do so. Heck maybe ol' ACG didn't intend for my 343 to survive, but it did. I think that even if we did buy the company; I liked that idea about buying Lionel and then putting out a catalog with one page of Lionel and 50 pages of Flyer (I'll have GOOD dreams tonight!), we wouldn't be a competitor of yours, as much as we'd cover another aspect of the market. Unfortunately, the S market is currently relatively small. But we hope our club, and other clubs around the world, will change that in the near future. If for no other reason than so the product line will diversify and we'll have fewer discussions about ---t like this and more about "How to do...."
