I just returned home from the second day of the Louisville GATS (Great American Train Show). Flyer and other "S" items available seemed to be somewhat less than in previous years, nonetheless, there were items to be purchased if you really had to have them. There were a number of N, HO, O, and G layouts of various kinds. My favorite was Chris & Beth Burger's Winter/Christmas "S" layout. Show attendees voted the first day on their favorite layout, and the votes were later tallied. Chris and Beth reported their layout came in 2nd of all the layouts present! The "N" modular layout that took up a large portion of the display area which was made up of "N" Track modules from clubs from 6 states took 1st place. Chris & Beth's 2nd finish was very gratifying, however, AND, also helped cover some of their show expenses. Congratulations, Chris and Beth!
Chris and Beth both worked very hard during the 2-day show. They talked to admirers, and answered hundreds of questions. Beth demonstrated her expertise at making excellent "S" scale trees from discarded artificial Christmas tree branches. Chris demonstrated how one could "manufacture" realistic rock formations from hydrocal, thinned acrylic paints, and rubber rock molds. In spite of their hard work, one could tell by their cheerful dedication, they were happy to be here spreading the advantages of "S". To Chris and Beth, both, I say - CHEERS, WELL DONE! Next year I'd like to be able to offer some assistance in helping them set up and take down their layout, as well as help them answer "S" questions. MAYBE!!?? Perhaps you might also want to congratulate Chris and Beth at Chris's "cbtrainnut..." eMail address! Take a look at: http://www.trainweb.org/cbtrainnut/ It's hard work and dedication like this that helps keep "S" alive and well!
