Hi Guys(Gals?)...You can use "Easy OFF" oven cleaner (spray bottle) to strip paint on metal and MOST plastics I've used this on old Lionels and works OK. Like everything, test on a small area inside the shell to test. Always wear rubber gloves and goggles! Spray all over the painted shell and wait a couple of minutes, then use a toothbrush and brush off the old paint.(Repeat if necessary). Then rinse the shell and clean with mild dishsoap and a toothbrush. Dry with a hairdryer on low. Once the complete shell is dry, you are ready to paint. For painting AF steamers, I've used Testors flat black with success(I know it's really FLAT but wait) . Once the paint has dried, you can apply dry transfers, then give a clear coat of Testors flat(boiler, tender boiler front and cylinders chest). Once this has dried(at least 24hrs), you can spray the parts with a small amount of furniture polish(Pledge or whatever) and hand buff. This should give a decent desired"finish". Clean any detail parts(handrails, rods, valve gear, bell) with a good chrome polish and assemble. Remember...take your time and your efforts will bring you great rewards. Al Kielek
