We have a Sacramento Valley American Flyer Club meeting today, and since
it's a 2-1/2 hour drive one way, I doubt I'll be back in time for Chat
tonight, so y'all have fun!
RE: track cleaning. While there are many ways to do it, I think we can all
agree that it is a tedious project. Why do it? Well, new track ain't exactly
cheap, K-Line or Gargraves or SHS, or AM or???. Also straight sections of
ACG track are not easy to come by either. It is amazing how rusty track can
get, and how much it can be cleaned up (especially with a glass bead
machine). I used to do this in "bulk" A can of spray paint will fully cover
at least 25 sections of track (I forget the number, it's been too long
ago)./ That's two coats, both sides. However, you do need to inspect when
you polish the paint off the tops, I found a piece or two that had rusted
clear through the rail top. I didn't throw them away, they became "dashboard
riders"--a sample to show people when I was at a swap meet or yard sale, "Ya
done seen any track like this around?" So many people have no clue when you
ask them about "old trains"--they're likely to dig out some old Tyco HO to
sell you!
Well, time to get ready to go to the meeting. The host puts on a great
feed bag! (Hey Rick, this out-classes your BBQ! ) :-)

PS No, I don't usually talk like I quoted above, but it is sometimes wise to
not appear too sophisticated! ;-) Gotta go get me some vittles now!
