I want to thank Chuck for a wonderful labor of love in posting all those pages. We can see the die was cast before 1944 and Gilbert could have made so many more steam locomotive variations as seen on pages 4, 5, 6 & 7. Instead he basically picked 5 and didn't go much further.

I am happy to be able to offer for your online inspection the 1944 Gilbert publication, "Roar Of The Rails" The world was at war, and unlike the first world war, kids had to do without new trains. This publication focused on prototype railroads, and at the same time incouraged kids to buy war bonds and wait for the day that American Flyer Trains would be available again. I am told this is a very rare Gilbert publication, and I was fortunate to be able to get one in nearly new condition for scanning. A reminder that when you get to the index page with the thumbnails, clicking on a thumbnail gives you a single page view, while clicking on the labels below the thumbnails, gives you the two page view, like the book was laying open on your desk.
