But none of the new coupler wannabes (e.g., "Gilbert compatible") from Lionel, AM, SHS, etc. work near as well as the original Gilberts. Period.
I have to give my 2 cents worth on this. I can pull 28 cars mixed with flyer, S-Helper, and american models. I have only had coupler problems with the Old flyer and american models. Coincidence? I don't know, it just seems like those couplers can't handle the longer heavier loads. I now run those at the end of the train or not at all.
