Dominic your views on this issue are disgraceful! This was a deliberately
orchestrated attack by the police on hundreds of mineworkers on strike for
decent wages. You are just an apologist for the ANC government and its
repressive machinery that has been violently attacking working class
protests and strikes for several years. Have you forgotten the Andries
Tatane murder? Your Marxist theory education has absolutely no relationship
to your own lived politics. Lenin's "State and Revolution" that you so
regularly circulate doesn't seem to influence you and your anti-working
class perspective on this issue.

See the Al Jazeera report on the massacre and see just how wrong you are.
But I doubt that you will change your view.

Please see the film. The attackers were almost on top of them. If they had
waited more than another second the police themselves were going to be
"overwhelmed by lethal force". This is why the police are issued with
weapons. It's for precisely this circumstance, and not for other
circumstances where there are options.

Let's get back to Swaziland.

Comrade Fair point about the nature of this series of attacks. However one
has to ponder the significance of these events regardless and the issues go
much deeper than the confrontation we witnessed. The true character of this
confrontation will probably be shown in due course but the scale of the
tragedy and the actors that play a part to this kind of national drama
expose many topical matters. Lethal force should be avoided and our police
forces in Africa have to understand that often their actions appear as
retributory violence. The South African Police can learn how to deal with
these kind of confrontations without resorting to overwhelming lethal force.
We all salute the fallen shop stewards and members of the Num.

You are mistaken Cde Gavin.

The attackers were lethally and unlawfully armed and they charged on our
republic's police force, who themselves were lawfully armed and did what
they are supposed to do, and are ordered to do, which is to use their arms
to defend themselves.

If you have not yet seen the film, please do look at it, and look at Google
Images as well, under Lonmin.

Nobody can be allowed to get up an army and charge on our police force with
lethal weapons.

Please also remember that the thugs, who are not "trade unionists", or
"strikers" and may not even be "workers" in any real sense, had already
killed two of our police members with impunity as well as killed numbers of
NUM members and in particular NUM shop stewards.

Also bear in mind that the police are organised as trade unionists in our
country.

This is enough on the subject of South Africa, comrades.

This is the Swaziland Solidarity Network Forum.

If you want to discuss South Africa, please find another forum to do so.

Killing such a large number of Workers has to be a signal that the time has
come for serious Soul Searching by the South African Elite's particularly
with regard to the control of the state. Who runs the South African State ?
