[Activists in North East of India move to organise debate and public 
information raising on uranium mining.  The Uranium Corporation of 
India Limited (UCIL) is trying to open uranium mining activity in 
Meghalaya. Here are 2 upcoming public events being planned there. ]

We the Khasi Students' Union (KSU), an organization of the North East 
India fighting on various socio, political and issues since the last 
25 years and have been opposing uranium mining in our state since 
1991, invite you to participate in open forum on uranium mining on 15 
July 2004 at 11 a.m.- at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, 
Shillong. Besides you, the following resource persons are also 
participating in the programme:

o     Mr. Praful Biwdai (A Senior Columnist and Anti-Nuclear Activist 
from New Delhi)

o     Dr. Surendra Gadekar (A Medical Professional and Editor of 
Anumukti, Journal of Sampurna Kranti Vidyalaya, Gujarat. His team had 
conducted survey in the villages near Jadugoda )

o     Mr. Ghanshyam Birulee (President of JOAR, the organization 
working against uranium mining at Jadugoda)

o     Mr. Dumka Murmu (Secretary JOAR)

o     The authorities of UCIL and the Government would take part in the forum.
o     
There will be field visit to the proposed uranium mining areas of 
Domasiat on 16th July 2004.

6.     R. Gupta- Chief Managing Director - UCIL, Jadugoda,

Other local activist will be their and academicians and intellectual 
besides people from domiasiat and surrounding.

Programme will be over by 2 pm which will be followed by high tea and 
lunch for participants.
