Herzliche Einladung
Olga Neuwirth & Burkhard Stangl

Die Komponistin Olga Neuwirth (*1968) und der Komponist und Per-former
Burkhard Stangl (*1960) arbeiten seit mehr als 15 Jahren auf
vielfältigste Art und Weise musikalisch zusammen. Zu Beginn stand
Stangls Interpretentätigkeit auf der elektrischen Gitarre für
Kompositionen von Neuwirth im Vordergrund. Die Komponistin setzt die
E-Gitarre integral in ihren Werken ein und bringt sie damit im Kontext
der Neuen Musik als eine der Wenigen forciert zur Geltung. Nach und nach
trat für Neuwirth & Stangl die Live-Performance mit gemeinsam in real
time geschaffener Musik in den Mittelpunkt. Dabei können akustische
Instrumente wie Stahlsaitengitarre, Zither oder Vibraphon ebenso zum
Einsatz kommen wie Theremin, E-Gitarre, Effektgeräte oder Laptop.
Neuwirth war zuletzt u.a. auf der documenta 12 vertreten und arbeitet
derzeit an einer Filmmusik für Michael Glawogger sowie an ihrer HOMMAGE
À KLAUS NOMI. Stangl hat mit Gitarre und electronic devices, oftmals im
Zusammenhang mit Film und Bildender Kunst, zahlreiche Schallplatten und
CDs veröffentlicht, u.a. auf den Labels Hat Art, Erstwhile und durian.
In der Secession performen Neuwirth & Stangl mit Theremin, "electric
wheel", Computer und E-Gitarre.

The composer Olga Neuwirth (born 1968) and the composer and performer
Burkhard Stangl (born 1960) have been working together for more than 15
years in a wide range of ways. Early on, the emphasis was on Stangl's
interpretations of Neuwirth's compositions on the electric guitar.
Neuwirth integrates the electric guitar directly into her work, making
her one of the few New Music composers to give it such a prominent role.
Over time, the focus of their collaboration shifted to live performances
creating music together in real time. They use acoustic instruments such
as steel-stringed guitar, zither, or vibraphone, as well as theremin,
electric guitar, effects, or laptop. Neuwirth's work was recently
featured at documenta 12; she is currently working on the score for a
film by Michael Glawogger and on her HOMMAGE À KLAUS NOMI. Stangl has
released many recordings with guitar and electronic devices, often in
connection with film and fine art, on labels including Hat Art,
Erstwhile, and durian. At the Secession, Neuwirth & Stangl will perform
with theremin, "electric wheel," computer, and electric guitar.
