Herzliche Einladung
Serhat Köksal / Gerwald Rockenschaub

Der türkische Künstler Serhat Köksal (*1968) gründete 1986 in Istanbul
sein Multimedia-Projekt 2/5 BZ, das er kontinuierlich in
unterschiedlichsten Formaten weiterentwickelt, von Video-Collagen über
Tapes, CD-ROMs und Audio-CDs bis hin zu fotokopierten Heftchen und
Live-Performances. Köksals Performances sind opulente Montagen aus
traditioneller Musik, experimentellen elektronischen Sounds und Bildern
aus Fernsehen und B-Movies, vereint in einer dadaistischen Konfrontation
von Pop, Orientalismus, Kitsch, Comic und Folklore. Jenseits von
Exotismen oder Ethnozismen und mit Hilfe von eigenen Aufzeichnungen,
Samples und Found Footage erforscht er kulturelle Klischees, Remakes und
copy cultures sowie deren Effekte auf die ökonomische und politische
Situation von Individuen und leistet damit einen Beitrag zur kritischen
und humorvollen Wiederverwertung von Massenkultur. Als Abschluss der 6
SESSIONS wird Köksal gemeinsam mit dem österreichischen und in Berlin
lebenden Künstler Gerwald Rockenschaub (*1952), der als digital DJ
auftritt, für einen Abend die Secession "rocken".

Turkish artist Serhat Köksal (born 1968) founded his multimedia project
2/5 BZ in Istanbul in 1986, continuing to develop it since in different
formats, from video collage to tapes, CD-ROMs, and audio CDs to
photocopied booklets and live performances. Köksal's performances are
opulent montages of traditional music, experimental electronic sounds,
and images from television and B-movies, brought together in a Dadaistic
confrontation of pop, orientalism, kitsch, comics, and folklore. Beyond
exoticism or ethnocentricity, and with the help of his own recordings,
samples, and found footage, he investigates cultural clichés, remakes,
and copy cultures, as well as their impact on the economic and political
situation of individuals, thus contributing to a critical and humorous
reuse of mass culture. As the final event of 6 SESSIONS, Köksal will
"rock" the Secession for one evening together with Berlin-based Austrian
artist Gerwald Rockenschaub (born 1952), who contributes a DJ set.
