Juni 2009, 19 Uhr SECESSION Friedrichstrasse 12, 1010 Wien, www.secession.at Der slowenische Kurator, Kunstkritiker, Autor und Theoretiker Igor Zabel (1958-2005) war in hohem Maße dafür verantwortlich, die slowenische Kunst auf die Landkarte der internationalen Kunstszene zu setzen. Als Chefkurator in der Moderna Galerija in Ljubljana arbeitete er daran, Verbindungen zwischen "Ost"- und "West"-Europa aufzubauen, ohne dabei den kritischen Blick auf aktuelle Veränderungen zu verlieren. Ziel des Buches ist es, jene Theorien und Ansätze weiterzuführen, die Igor Zabel in seinen Ausstellungen, Publikationen, kritischen Schriften und europäischen Austauschinitiativen verfolgt hat. As senior curator of Moderna galerija in Ljubljana, he was engaged in establishing links between "East" and "West" Europe without losing a critical perspective of the ongoing transformations. The aim of the book is to continue the theories and approach pursued by Igor Zabel in his exhibitions, publications, critical writings and European exchange initiatives. The curatorial collective What, How & for Whom (WHW) from Zagreb were the first recipient of this award, worth EUR 40,000. The award acknowledges the work of a cultural protagonist whose work is dedicated to broadening international knowledge of visual culture in the Central and South Eastern European region.
