7. Österreichischer FRIEDRICH-KIESLER-PREIS für ARCHITEKTUR und KUNST 2010
Dem Künstler HEIMO ZOBERNIG wird als erstem Österreicher von Claudia
Schmied, Bundesministerin für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur, der Friedrich
Kiesler-Preis für Architektur und Kunst verliehen. Die internationale Jury
Tony Fretton, Francesca von Habsburg, Moritz Küng, Frédéric Migayrou und
Nasrine Seraji würdigt neben dem beispiellosen Oeuvre und Werdegang des
Künstlers [
] vor allem Heimo Zobernigs künstlerische Agilität, etablierte
Sichtweisen subtil zu untergraben und Unvorhergesehenes aufzudecken. (aus:
Begründung der Jury 2010). Die mit 55.000 Euro dotierte Auszeichnung wird
für hervorragende Leistungen im Bereich der Architektur und der Künste, die
den experimentellen und innovativen Auffassungen Friedrich Kieslers und
seiner Theorie der correlated arts entsprechen, verliehen.

Anlässlich der Ehrung des Künstlers präsentiert die Kiesler Stiftung Wien
Arbeiten von Heimo Zobernig, die die Entwicklungsgeschichte des Environments
gleichermaßen wie die des Ausstellungsdisplays thematisieren. In den
modellhaften Rauminterventionen des Preisträgers wird das Zusammenwirken
künstlerischer Wirkungsfelder sowohl kritisch beleuchtet als auch
eindrucksvoll unter Beweis gestellt. In diesem Sinne liefert sein Werk den
umfassenden Intentionen des Architekten und Künstlers Friedrich Kiesler
(1890-1965) eine spannende sowie zeitgenössische Entsprechung.

Das Medium der Fotografie nimmt im umfassenden Oeuvre des Architekten und
Künstlers Friedrich Kiesler einen besonderen Stellenwert ein. Den
zahlreichen Portraits und Gruppenaufnahmen, die sich im Nachlass des
Künstlers erhalten haben, widmet die Kiesler Stiftung Wien im November 2010
eine Sonderausstellung.
Diese Fotodokumente sind heute eindrucksvolle Belege für die persönlichen
Beziehungen, die Friedrich Kiesler und seine erste Frau Steffi mit den
renommiertesten Vertretern und Vertreterinnen der europäischen und
amerikanischen Avantgarde unterhielten. Es sind aber nicht nur die Namen der
auf den Fotos abgebildeten Künstler, die sich wie ein Who is Who der
verschiedenen Avantgardebewegungen lesen - auch hinter der Kamera standen
einige der bedeutendsten Portraitfotografen des 20. Jahrhunderts.

7th Austrian FREDERICK KIESLER PRIZE for ARCHITECTURE and the ARTS 2010
The AUSTRIAN FREDERICK KIESLER PRIZE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND THE ARTS 2010 will
be awarded to the Austrian artist HEIMO ZOBERNIG by Claudia Schmied, Federal
Minister for Education, Art and Culture. The international jury Tony
Fretton, Francesca von Habsburg, Moritz Küng, Frédéric Migayrou and Nasrine
Seraji acknowledges the artists unparalleled oeuvre and development
[and] above all Heimo Zobernigs artistic agility in subtly undermining
established ways of seeing things and uncovering unexpected aspects. (From:
jury statement 2010). The award, with high prize money of 55,000 euros, is
presented for outstanding achievements in the field of architecture and the
arts that conform to Frederick Kieslers experimental, innovative
conceptions and his theory of correlated arts. The prize-winners works
on show at the Kiesler Foundation Vienna to mark this occasion focus on the
history and development of the environment and of the exhibition display.
Heimo Zobernigs model space interventions are both critical examinations
and impressive proof of the interplay of different fields of art. In this
sense, his work also represents an exciting, contemporary analogue to the
all-embracing interventions of the architect-artist Frederick Kiesler
(1890-1965).

The medium of photography is of major importance for the extensive oeuvre of
the architect and Artist Frederick Kiesler. An exhibition will be dedicated
to the numerous portraits and group photographs which are preserved in the
artists estate in November at the Kiesler Foundation Vienna.
The photographic documents are an impressive evidence for the relationships
of Friedrich Kiesler and his first wife Steffi with the most renown members
of the European and American avant-garde movements.
Not only the names of the artists shown on the photographs could be read as
a who is who of the avant-garde movements behind the camera were also some
of the most renown portrait photographers.
