Yes, it will be executed. So far, all files in SMC only have a single default action. However, you could create a terminal in SMC, and then open the .tex file in a command-line file viewer. I.e. if the file is filename.tex, then run this command:
less filename.tex you can scroll up and down with the cursor keys or Page-up/down, and exit it via pressing the "q" key.
