A source install of sagemath should be sort-of usable across that. In the present setup it seems it needs a big disclaimer that sage needs to be rebuilt after any system update? That's a little impractical. Isn't there at least something that can systematically check which dependencies are still in place and which are not, and then just rebuild what's necessary? Then at least, most of the time, the rebuild isn't hugely onerous.
