Hmm.  When I read this thread on Google groups (http://
groups.google.com/group/sage-devel/browse_frm/thread/
888293270a5e4db6), it hides most of the previous message, with a link
saying "Show quoted text" which I can click on to expand if I want
to.  This way the whole message is there if people need to see it, but
it can easily be ignored otherwise.

For example, the beginning of my reply to Robert looks like this,
which seems perfectly reasonable to me:

My current plan is to rewrite this part, getting rid of the phrase
"use Sage when possible", among other changes.
