I'm a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology http://www.theiet.org/
which was created from the old Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) in the UK, along with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (or something like that anyway). There's a magazine every couple of weeks, which is one of the benefits. The 12-25th September issue http://kn.theiet.org/magazine/issues/0915/index.cfm has a whole lot on open-source. The front cover shows a picture of an open padlock. Inside the padlock it says "The Open Source Issue" What I did find interesting is that in the inside front cover, there is a whole page advert for MATLAB. There's a 'readers letters' page. Adding a letter, introducing Sage might be a useful idea. I'm not quite sure the best way to do it though. I've not read the other open-source articles yet - there are pages and pages of them. If you can get this electronically via a library, it might be worth a look.
