There are a couple of issues with gnutls-2.2.1 which I reported to the
gnutls-de...@gnu.org mailing list. They advise me that we should not be using
2.2.1, as there are security issues with this release. I've made fixing the
security issues a ticket

http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7542

There were two failures of gnutls

1) gnutls not building on OpenSolaris (x86)
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7387

2) gnutls-2.2.1 fails to build on HP-UX
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7511

which caused me to try building a new .spkg from the latest upstream release.
But that fails to solve either of the existing problems, but also fails to
build
on Solaris 10 (SPPARC). So the 'upgrade' caused more problems than the old
version, so I abandoned any attempt to upgrade the release.

But it would appear we do need to address this.

The developers also say this
should build on Solaris. I'll send them details of a failure to build later.
