Is there anyone actively working on changing Sage's source so it builds with gcc 3.4.x?
Is there any point in trying, given the 3.4 series is so old and newer releases of gcc are readily available on any platform? 'prereq' will exit for gcc older than 3.4.0 and also for the buggy 4.0.0, but for 3.4.x it will just issue a warning. I see 3 problems with this myself. 1) The warning flies past so quickly on a fast machine, you would have to be very eagle-eyed to see it. 2) I doubt anyone is trying to fix 3.4 series issues. 3) Solaris does ship with gcc 3.4.3, which means someone can start the build, even though it will ultimately fail. I'd propose I simply update prereq to simply exit for any gcc < 4.0.1.
