I know.
But on OS X, there is a tool "install_name_tool", and it seems on
Linux (it's e.g. in Debian) the tool "chrpath", that both allow to
exchange exactly these paths encoded by "rpath" in binaries and
libraries. In the latter case, "only with shorter paths". Have you
heard of such a tool under Solaris?

crle can be used by a non-root user for experimentation. It's possible that could be used to help, but I'm not sure if it would have any advantages over LD_LIBRARY_PATH.


Once run as root, and the system file /var/ld/ld.config, this has the downside of affecting every single person on the system. Also, if a mistake -s made, the system can be unbootable. Which is why its good to experiment as non-root first.
