It seems likely to me that the behavior of Maxima when
keepfloat = true is inconsistent with the documented effect
of keepfloat; seems appropriate to me to report such
behavior as a bug.

That said, in the algorithms which seek exact solutions,
Maxima is much more comfortable with exact quantities than
floats. In the interest of getting predictable results I would
advise to simply avoid keepfloat altogether. I don't really
see the point of it; I haven't considered this too carefully,
but I might be in favor of simply expunging it.
