That is probably true, but surprisingly, there are "wrong" answers.
There are good arguments to be made that the average of 2 colors
should be defined such that a dither pattern of two colors is
perceived as the same color as their average. Apparently, the RGB
values of a picture are purposely not interpreted in a way that is
perceived as "linear", and different choices are made for different
pictures (the gamma value). That means that averaging colors is not
just the arithmetic mean.

As far as I can see, arithmetic of colors has not been implemented,
but if someone does that, it would probably be good to take the gamma
value into account.
