Hi Dan, The distinction is one group is a matrix group and the other is a permutation group.
sage/groups/matrix_gps/matrix_group.py sage/groups/perm_gps/permgroup.py Presumably the method could be moved up the hierarchy a level. Can you make a ticket, or should I add it to my queue?
