Are we to test with SAGE_CHECK=yes ?
I have a test failure while building python spkg on a pretty usual
Debian x64 system (with make -j8, or just make) if I have it on.

namely, the failures are:

test_distutils
test test_distutils failed -- errors occurred; run in verbose mode for
details
(this is not very informative, I know – how does one turn this on?)

test_zlib
test test_zlib failed -- Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/src/sage/sage-4.7.rc1/spkg/build/python-2.6.4.p10/
src/Lib/test
/test_zlib.py", line 84, in test_baddecompressobj
    self.assertRaises(ValueError, zlib.decompressobj, 0)
AssertionError: ValueError not raised

Best,
Dima
