Hello Sage developers,
My name is Anthony Durity. I am completing a Master's in Digital
Culture (Cultural/Media Studies with a digital twist) and I am writing
my thesis on Free and Open Source Software Mathematical Tools. The
program is here
https://www.jyu.fi/hum/laitokset/taiku/en/subjects/dgl/ if you need
query the university for confirmation of this. An essential part of my
thesis is to get detailed feedback from mathematics software
developers (both of the FOSS and proprietary variety) to see what
motivates them (you) to do what they (you) do.
To that end I would appreciate if people here could contact me
personally to let me know if they would be willing to share this type
of knowledge with me. I have already looked in the background of Sage.
I have a background in IT so you won't have to spoon-feed me technical
information, also I have a degree in philosophy and mathematics
(undergrad level) so I should also be able to follow basic math stuff
as well if you go easy on me :)
I'm not really so interested in the organizational aspects of the
project, I'm more interested in big picture questions: how you see
yourself in respect to the entire development of science, how you see
yourself in relation to proprietary tools, what you think of the
practicalities and ethics of what you are doing from a
scientific/historical perspective, special issues related to
mathematics software versus other software. I've followed FOSS for
years so I am familiar with concepts of copyleft and so on so we
wouldn't be delving into that too much either.
Anyway, let me know if you're interested in giving me your opinion on
the world of FOSS mathematics tools and mathematics tools in general.
Kind regard and best wishes,
Look forward to hearing from you,
Anthony
