Hello! As promised, here some words about the download statistics. I focus on 4.7 only. As you all might already know, we have this mirror network and only indirect information about the downloads. I.e. click tracking via javascript. I have no idea how exact this is and the following numbers are just a lower bound.
Download numbers since end of May until Aug 10th: ~10,000 Windows - sage-4.7.ova ~2,750 [ btw, in the same timerange: sage-vmware-4.6 ~2,500 ] Source: ~1,250 Linux total: ~4,000 - ubuntu 32bit, 10.4: ~2,300 - ubuntu 64bit, 10.4: ~1,150 - fedora 14, 64bit: ~180 - RHEL 5.6: ~180 Mac OSX total ~1,400 - 10.6, 64bit, *-app: ~620 - 10.6, 64bit, no *-app: ~240 - 10.4/app: ~120 - 10.4/no app: ~120 SunOS: ~10 My conclusion: Ubuntu 32bit is crucial, we should have that one ready when we release. The windows image is more important than some might imagine, especially because it is rather hard to setup and a huge download. We should probably remove this older images, but i'm not sure. Mirrors themselves: Last week I looked at the stats and was wondering once again why some mirrors are selected more often than others. Then I saw the pattern, they are sorted by alphabet on the download page! Users tend to just click on the first mirror no matter what. So, now it's random to be fair to the mirrors ;) User's OS for those who downloaded (windows also includes 4.6 vmware) Win: ~6,600, Linux: ~5,100, Mac: ~1,500 By country download stats (total for end of May until Aug 10th): USA: ~4,300 [ Europe total: ~4,300, 1:1 with USA! ] France: ~900 UK: ~600 India: ~570 Japan: ~500 Canada: ~480 Italy: ~450 Spain: ~430 China: ~420 Australia: ~390 Germany: ~300 Brazil: ~250 Russia: ~210 Mexico: ~200 Switzerland: ~190 Thailand: ~190 South Korea: ~160 Belgium: ~110 Portugal: ~105 Greece: ~105 Poland: ~105 all others below 100, list continues with: Argentina, Chile, Austria, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Colombia, Netherlands, Israel, Indonesia, ... USA: California: 840 New York: 352 Washington: 267 Illinois: 242 Texas: 242 Massachusetts: 222 ...
