OK, but it was on a different directory, thus, no clobbering
intended...

The example above was with Mercurial Distributed SCM (version 1.6.4).

However, when I tried to qimport the patch from trac then I worked in
a sage shell. And "hg" is the same as "sage -hg" in a sage shell - but
it didn't update the patch either (only when I qimported from a local
file).

Thank you, that would be a possible explanation. But it must be a
recent change. I overwrote patches all the time.

Anyway, I'll ask my sysadmin...
