Probably right.  Again, I don't claim to be an expert at all, I just
knew that I could at least help with this.  It is possible you are
quite right about the Cygwin overall, and I would be happy to forget
about it.  I'm just concerned for having secure one-click install on
Windows without VM, which seems to add a couple layers of complexity
(though Volker's work has been fantastic at simplifying it).

Yes, and I've tried to make as many people as possible aware of 2).
It would be fantastic if one of those ended up being a long-term
solution!   Again, this is just my personal take - I can barely help
with Cygwin, I definitely do not have the expertise to help with those
issues (e.g., the possible partition problems).  But if there are
people who can help you with those, that would be wonderful.

I'd be interested in hearing the opinion of those who spent time on
the Cygwin port in the past, particularly w.r.t. the LiveCD installer
and security/other issues.
