I see, you're not loading or attaching in an active command line session. Hopefully someone else has an answer for this; I don't use such scripts, so I am not sure how to/whether one can solve this. This definitely is an interesting place where not assigning can lead to problems, though it really has to be the use case where .sage is not possible to use.
