I've put up my first try at a PIL 1.1.7 spkg at <http://uplib.parc.com/ misc/pil-1.1.7.p0.spkg>.
Please tell me what I did wrong :-). I've tried this on OS X Leopard, and on Ubuntu64 10.04. This version includes a statically linked libjpeg, *doesn't* rummage around on the local machine trying to find additional libraries in / usr/local or (on Macs) /opt and /sw, and runs both the PIL test suite and a Sage test suite.
