$ ./sage --version
Sage Version 4.8, Release Date: 2012-01-20
$ ./sage --python --version
Python 2.6.4

(Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS)

Also works for me if I do './sage -i git' (which first downloads the
spkg; IMHO the only point where Python is used at all).
