Because it's more work for us to support this, for absolutely no advantage.
I suggest sage-the-distribution sticks to not leaving choices to the
users because that would indeed be too much to support ; but
sage-the-software should be more distribution friendly and just trust
the packagers will do a correct job (like they do for thousands of
packages in each and every distribution).
