I have this on OSX, which I guess doesn't have an OOM killer; 
anyway, no, the processes just hang, and no,
nothing gets killed.
OSX should pop up a desktop warning saying you're low on RAM, but I
see none of this.

I can imagine a deadlock when a slave waits for a chunk of`
RAM from the OS, while the master waits for the slave...

Perhaps if you make overcommitting on a Linux system really
conservative you'd be able to reproduce this.
