OK, so my log files indicated that mathjax-2.6.1 had been successfully installed, but upon looking at what should have been installed it was clear that the install was not correct.
After ./sage -f mathjax and rebuilding the html-docs the math (latex) typsetting is now what it should be. Apparently, this has been this way for some time?
