hi all,

I'm sorry if what i ask is trivial. I'm doing some computations with
roots of unity, using CyclotomicField(n) etc, and at the end I need
GAP to understand the result -- in fact it's a list of eigenvalues
that i'd like to pass to GAP's Character() function.

At the moment the only solution i see is a combination of getting the
string representation for my list, importing the re module to work
with regular expressions, and replace all zetan 's by E(n) 's ...!!!!

anything less painful ? (a pity that you cannot name the variable E(n)
in the cyclotomic field...)

thanks!
Pierre

PS really what i'm writing is simply a function to compute the
exterior powers of a character. It doesn't seem to be built into GAP,
but i may be wrong here ! anyway i couldn't find anything in gap's
documentation.
