AMD 1800; 1.5 gig mem. Kubuntu Edgy-Eft

I did not compile it - just tried w/binary i.e. ./sage

whether in cli or browser, I type sqrt(4) & sage tries to start maxima
but fails.
it will do normal computations 3+4^2 ; eratosthenes(20); loads gp ok;
