Is this an older machine? I used to have similar trouble on my old OS X laptop (part of why I got a new laptop actually); the graphics would _eventually_ display, but it might take a very, very long time. I am not sure what the bottleneck is, and maybe you are having a different problem. If it is just very slow, perhaps you could try: restarting firefox and freeing as many resources as possible (i.e. shut down other large programs), and then trying a simple 3d plot like show(sphere()).
