I thought I'd try to install Sage on an external disk, but I ran into two problems: the hard disk file system doesn't support symbolic links, and my laptop's distribution (Suse 9.3) is too old to compile Sage. So until I get around to upgrading my laptop or its software (which I'm loathe to do, as even though it's old, it actually works pretty well), I'm restricted to using Sage on the public server at sagenb.org.
