I didn't get c.imag() to work for me either, I tried something like this:

a=(sqrt(-3)+2)^2
print a
print a.expand()
print  a.expand().imag()

and got
                                                   2
(sqrt(3)  I +  2)

4 sqrt(3)  I +  1

4 sqrt(3)
