It works for me, as follows: sage 6.7 server running on a remote machine (ubuntu 14.04), port 8081. I am logged into that machine using ssh-tunnelling and open localhost@8081 and log in. (Local machine is a laptop also running ubuntu, and chromium browser). Navigate to a fairly random live cell in the reference manual. Shift-enter works fine.
