UPDATE 1-Global steel output up 19 pct in Jan-Sept by Thomson Reuters

LONDON, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Global crude steel production rose 19.4 percent
year on year in the January to September period to 1.046 billion tonnes,
figures from the World Steel Association showed on Thursday.

World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the
association (worldsteel) was 111.75 million tonnes in September, up 0.9
percent from the same month last year.

Crude steel output in China, the world's top producer and consumer, fell 5.9
percent to 47.95 million tonnes in September from the same period last year,
worldsteel said in a release.

Japan produced 9.2 million tonnes of crude steel in September, up 11.7
percent from the same month last year. South Korea's production last month
was 4.7 million tonnes, 3.2 percent up from the same month last year.

In Europe, Germany's crude steel output in September was 3.3 million tonnes,
a rise of 4.1 percent from September 2009.

Italy produced 2.3 million tonnes, 19.8 percent above the same month in
2009.

Turkey produced 2.5 million tonnes of crude steel in September 2010, up 17.9
percent from the saem month in 2009.

In the United States steel output was up 15 percent year-on-year at 6.6
million tonnes in September.
