Wowow! Great news! Konkani film & Songs in Germany???.....Great!
Have always liked Lorna's songs. Some of us would probably remember her passing
by our house when she was a young lady & before she became the "Nightingale of
Saligao". Her voice still sounds good as we had the opportunity of attending
her show in Saligao ..... around 2 years ago?
The movie was brought to Bahrain on the first Friday of this month by a few of
the Goan Konkani lovers here - the Cinema Theatre was full - All enjoyed!
Thanks Rico! Will hear the voices & songs again later in the day!...or
probably over our weekend!

Have a nice day!...SaligaoNetters & Saliganvkars around the world!

Dazzling homage full of music and dance in honor of the
Konkani stars of the 1960's

At a Goan wedding the trumpet player Lawry
discovers the charismatic singer Dona, who as lead
vocalist soon breathes new life into his swing band
in Mumbai. Punctuated by 20 newly-recorded Konkani
hits, director Bardroy Barretto’s film debut
fictionalizes the tragic love affair of Goan music
legends Chris Perry and Lorna Cordeiro. With its
upbeat, poppy and jazzy songs, the film pays homage
to Goa’s unique musical legacy, which in the 1960s
had a great influence on Indian film music.

Konkani Goan All Stars

Konkani Music, a mix of jazz, rock n roll, Latin American
rhythms, Portuguese influences and pop-like tearjerkers,
developed in Goa from the 1920s to the 1970s. On the trail
of central figures such as trumpet player Chris Perry or the
legendary singer Lorna, sound engineer Sigrid Pfeffer
explored this incredible mix, compiling the CD "Konkani
Songs" in 2009. For Wassermusik she has succeeded in
convincing Konkani musicians, with the support of Dutch
trumpet player Saskia Laroo, to perform as the All Stars
band.

About the Haus der Kulturen der Welt: The Haus der Kulturen
der Welt ("House of the Cultures of the World") in Berlin is
Germany's national centre for the presentation and discussion
of international contemporary arts, with a special focus on
non-European cultures and societies. It presents art
exhibitions, theater and dance performances, concerts, author
readings, films and academic conferences on Visual Art and
culture. It is one of the few institutions which, due to
their national and international standing and the quality of
their work, receive funding from the federal government as
so-called "lighthouses of culture." The building is located
in the Tiergarten park and a direct neighbour of the Carillon
and the new German Chancellery. It was formerly known as the
Kongresshalle conference hall, a gift from the United States,
designed in 1957 by the American architect Hugh Stubbins as a
part of the International Building Exhibition. John F.
Kennedy spoke here during his June 1963 visit to West Berlin.
On May 21, 1980 the roof collapsed killing one and injuring
numerous people. The hall was rebuilt in its original style
and reopened in 1987 in time for the 750 year anniversary of
the founding of Berlin. To Berliners it is also known as the
Schwangere Auster ("pregnant oyster"). Source: Wikipedia.
