SALIGAO DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

REPORT OF MEETING HELD ON 12-12-03 AT 5:00PM

Those present : Dean D’Cruz, Charles D’Souza, Austin Da Gama

Mario Venancio took leave from attendance

The meeting was postponed by half an hour due to lack of quorum and
proceeded with the above mentioned.

The minutes of the previous meeting were discussed.

1. It was decided to request the Panchayat for information on
suggested development issues of the Development Committee as recommended at
the previous Committee meeting.

2. It is regretted that a number of members of the Development
Committee did not attend this and the previous meeting despite giving
adequate notice to do so. It was decided to issue a plea to these members
to continue actively participating in the Development Committee and if
these members were no longer interested in being part of the Development
Committee that the Committee should request for new members in their place
at the next Gram Sabha.

3. The Panchayat ward members were commended for their road repair
work being undertaken and also for the removal of all except one hoarding,
as per court directives.

4. On the Market / Panchayat Hall proposal -
· Mr. Charles D’Souza enquired as to what action has been taken by
the Panchayat for the recovery of dues which have not been paid for the
last 10 years by any tenant of the market, it is recommended that any
repair work for the market should be spent from recovered dues and rent as
per government directives.
· Mr. Austin Da Gama enquired whether any objections / suggestions /
alternative plans were received by the Panchayat on the Market / Panchayat
Building and if so the nature of these so they could be incorporated into
the final scheme.

5. Mr. Mario Venancio through phone conference commented that in the
cross drains being repaired / reconstructed in Arrarim, some of the old
side walls were collapsing and these should be repaired. Also, care should
be taken that the covers of these drains are made as per standards for
road, to take at least 10 tonne axle loading. Concerned ward members may
look into the execution of this.

6. Certain members of the public had also complained that the levels
of road being re-tarred have been lifted in certain areas above the gate
levels and general compound levels thereby making flooding a possibility.
Concerned ward members may look into this.

The next Development Committee meeting will be held in the Panchayat
premises immediately after the special Gram Sabha, the date of which is yet
to be fixed by the Panchayat.
