Hi guys (specially those reading this in Saligao): How about pushing to get our 'computer club' plan going, and make it a reality? When could we get it started? Around April 2004, when the holidays would mean lots of students and parents would be free too?
Saligao Institute is open to the idea. It would mean: [] Meeting once a month, on a fixed day, say last Thursday, etc [] Having a talk each month. [] Initially focussing on general, non-tech talks (Internet, getting the most out of multimedia) [] Keeping the event open [] Publicising it well in advance, at the local schools, etc [] Making sure there's a good speaker each month. Who'll volunteer? Ashley? Derek? I think this could be a feasible and also useful idea to share information of this sort. A few demos could be arranged if anyone is willing to shift their PCs for a few hours. (Ashley and myself have both done this earlier, when our software-loaded PCs were needed for demos at St Xavier's College and at the Computer Society of India-GNU/Linux meets at Panjim.) We could also invite over the elder generation, many of whom are eager to know more about things like the "Internet"... and introduce them to how it could be of relevance to them, and how they could tap into it without necessarily investing in an entire computer setup themselves. Send in your responses; hopefully positive.
