Dear Saligaonettekars,

Last week, we mentioned the open-air dance joint in Sangolda that loudly
belches its nocturnal noise pollution into neighbouring Saligao. Attached is
a letter from Gomantak Times 26/5/04 page 4, documented by Goa Desc, the
State's ever alert *Watch-doc Centre*.

The name of the Sangolda joint is Silver Bells.

Like we mentioned, Alva Mar and Emerald Lawns, similar joints in Parra, next
door, also keep Saligaokars awake, flouting the sound ban by...you guessed
it...keeping their 'political and police God-fathers' happy!

Strangely, the letter to GT and our post to Saligaonet appeared on the same
day.

In solidarity with assaulted eardrums and the hearing imaired all over Goa...

M&M.

Over to Goa Desc...

Noise pollution rules flouted
--------------------------------------
I am a resident of Sangolda. There is an open-air wedding
venue (Name withheld - Editor) in the residential area of
Sangolda, where extremely loud music is played very often
till well pass midnight.

My daughter and I have repeatedly phoned the Calangute Police
Station, under which jurisdiction Sangolda comes and requested
them to take action to stop the loud music by 10pm. However, I
have been shocked to hear the Calangute Police say they are
"helpless" and unable to take any action against the owner of the
place "due to his high-up political connections."

Coming from the police, this is a shocking statement. Are our
police in Goa becoming a gutless bunch of puppets in the hands
of the politicians that they cannot even uphold the law ?

I appeal to the Chief of Goa Police to kindly instruct the Calangute
Police Station to ensure that noise pollution rules are strictly
observed and that all loud music is stopped by 10pm.

I also appeal to the Chief Minister to kindly ensure that the rules
and regulations and orders of the Supreme Court are strictly
observed.
