We tried it at the Institute. Apart from being slow at implementing new ideas, it seems there's not much appreciation there of the power of the reading habit. If someone shows the initiative from that end, a lot can be done. We had also offered -- and delivered support -- in the past, but it never got used for a magazine reading room.
By contrast, Lourdes Convent has been successfully offering its students a wide range of magazines -- with support from donors on the Internet -- for the past 4 years or so. The challenge is to now extend this facility to the general public and non-students.
I really believe that reading (magazines, because it's non-fiction and affordable and news-you-can-use) can offer opportunity to many in the village. Like myself. FN
